No More Smoking...

Colorado Springs' smoking ban starts today. Certain places are exempt, like the cigar bar I was at last night. I am a non-smoker, so I am glad. How are people dealing with this concept in other parts of the country/world?

UGH! I was so excited when I heard about the no smoking law in NY for the first time. Now it has trickled over into NJ--which they are concerned about the casinos over there in Atlantic City. I do believe that certain bars and pubs should have the choice providing it is just that--a pub. But as far as restaurants, no way. I am so happy about this.

Clean air, finally!

It's a great thing. It's so wrong that people who have never smoked a day in their lives end up dying from lung cancer... Ottawa's been smoke-free for a couple of years now, some restaurants say that their profits have suffered a little bit, but seriously though, profits have never suffered as badely as during the NHL strike last year.. thank God the NHL is back :)

I am a non smoker degenerative lung disease but I do not know if you have to fully ban smoking. I have been in many resteraunts that have it set up properly with maybe 60 percent of the place smoke free and the air handlers do a decent job of removing the smoke.

Now don't get me wrong, I would rather never run into any smoke but I am trying for a half way ground. Of course instead I just wish they would ban tabacco all together. The FDA says we will not allow you to put that drug on the market because it MIGHT harm someone but they allow tabacco? Oh well, silly me expecting government to make sense.

In Michigan certain cities have banned smoking in most public areas. For everyone else there are rules of how much now smoking area each establishment must provide and also rules about the air handlers.

Mpls.,MN has that in almost almost all places here and alot of smokers are very unhappy. I on the other hand am a non smoker and alergic to cigrette smoke so it makes me happy. Im sorry for those who are angry but I can now go some where and breath. It wouldnt have been so bad had I not been alergic. But thats a double wammy on me. Now if we can get them not to stand right in front of the doors smoking so I can walk in or out with out holding my breath I'll be happy. They look at me like Im nuts when I take a deep breath and hold my nose and rush past.

i love it .
You can still smoke in bars and casinos up here until 2008 but I am sure that they "the smokers" will find a way to stop that.

california's had the ban in place for many years, and it's faaaabulous. i can go to a bar and have drinks with friends and not come home smelling like an ashtray.

and did we not all see the surgeon general's report this week which said no-smoking sections don't work? that the smoke doesn't obey imaginary barriers?

i know it really sucks for smokers. but i'm happy to be able to dine and have cocktails without sneezing or stinking.

Deb - As often as you are at the bar I am sure you are glad :P

Grace - Only a Canadian could turn this into a discussion about hockey. Too funny

Barman - Well our ban removes smoking from all restaurants and bars, except for cigar bars, and casinos. I was surprised about the casinos.

Gab - I totally agree, at least here employers have to provide an outside smoking are that is I think 100 feet from any enterance. That made me happy a few years ago because I held my breath going through there as well.

Lori - 2008??? What's up with that. Are they thinking that a timeframe like that would encourage people to quit prior to then? Odd.

Terry - Oooo so when I eventually make it out there we can have our sidecars in a smoke free bar? Cool!

When I came home from the bar the other night I was one stinky son of a bitch. I showered right away. BLAH. But showering when on a good buzz can be interesting... and dangerous. I'm glad I don't drink a lot. I'd have to have safety rails that I could hold onto in the shower.
